Climate Action
Legislation
We're building the power to support climate legislation that builds a regenerative future.
Approach
BERKELEY'S DECLARATION

Researching & Supporting Legislation

The CEMTF has been instrumental in researching and supporting replicable legislation for the Bay Area. In addition to the Climate Emergency Declaration in Berkeley that helped to kick start the region’s climate emergency initiative. We’ve also worked to support and sign-on to other local legislative efforts including:
• The New Building Gas Ban/Electrification Ordinance
(Passed in Berkeley. Recently adopted in San Francisco. Under review in other cities.)
• One World One Resolution
(Currently in the Policy Committee in Berkeley)
Our legislation sub-committee works on identifying opportunities to get members involved in writing and supporting legislation.

Sharing Model Legislation

In addition to writing legislation, we aim to spread municipal change by sharing replicable, model legislation. In addition to sharing legislative templates we seek to share lessons learned and best practices for implementing impactful local and state policy.

Connecting Stakeholders

The best legislation considers impact across as many spectrums as possible. Climate change, though it will affect everyone, will not affect everyone equally. This is why impacted communities and advocates must be a part of any legislative actions. We strive to create a coalition that includes impacted communities and legislatures in the same room.
